Bookmarks – December – Counting My Blessings

“It’s beginning to look a lot like crazy, Everywhere I turn.” When those “alternative” lyrics popped into my head recently, I thought I better work my program! For many of us—women especially—this the busiest time of the year. Holidays and families. Now there’s a combo ripe for conflict. And then there’s me, able to play those old perfectionist tapes in my head at a moment’s notice. I can be a self-igniting keg of dynamite.

Greetings Friends!! I am glad we are able to get together again for the business of PA Al-Anon at our final November AWSC meeting of Panel 61! Thank you for being here and thank you for the opportunity to serve and grow as your Delegate. For those outcoming members of our Panel my hope is you have found a blessing in service and know that you made a difference. I thank you for your dedication and service and wish you well on what is next for you. If you are new to Area service, welcome, and I am glad you are joining us along this journey as we all in Pennsylvania service are.

Bookmarks – October – A Transitional Time

Autumn is also a transitional time for our fellowship as three-year terms of service come to an end in December. Folks are being asked to ask themselves about their willingness to step up. Service in Al-Anon, I have found, is unlike similar roles in other organizations. It is joyful and collaborative. It is challenging and fun. It has taken me on a journey of growth.

Bookmarks – September – An Attitude of Gratitude

On Monday, Sept. 11, I got to my home group meeting for the first time in two weeks. It felt so good to be there! We met in a pavilion by a lake, which offered a peaceful breeze now and then as we read and shared from Courage to Change (B-16). Our topic was Changed Attitudes. I realized I needed to be there before I developed a bad one.

Bookmarks – July – Freedom from Fear

I have learned through Al-Anon that fear rides under my need to control and the illusion of power that it may give me. Naked, dumb fear. Fear of failure—that I won’t live up to the crazy, impossible expectations I give myself. That fear perched in my psyche long ago, when I thought I had to do it—whatever “it” was—all by myself. It was the price of being “independent.”
